Today was a long day, but also a rewarding one, for today Mistress and I got to meet Idlewild and her husband. We rendezvoused at the house of Idle's hubby's parents, and drove to Pappasito's for a lovely Tex-Mex dinner of fajitas and margaritas. It was a splended encounter, and as the evening wended on talk of computers and Richard Stallman turned to talk of love and marriage. For the boys of the CoG who are wondering about Idlewild, allow me to tell you that she is every bit the woman she appears to be on the forums--a classy, sophisticated lady with bitingly subtle wit; demure, attractive, sweet, and imminently likeable. And she REALLY got funny when we got a bit of alcohol in her :)
We left Pappasito's and headed next door to Pappadeaux for desert, and sat outside under the Christmas lights on the restaurant's patio, eating key lime pie and cheesecake, and the entire evening was ours. Later, when Mistress and I saw them off at hubby's parents' house, I felt warm and contented.
It is good to have friends.

Yeah, this is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I say we invade them, just for spite. I call dibs on their submarine!

Some days, everything comes together.
I feel pretty good about work today. I've gotten a whole ton of work stuff taken care of, I've got all of my bills paid with a bit of money left over for Christmas shopping, and there's this one user who has given me a ton of grief in the past who, God help me, I'm actually starting to like. What is the world coming to?

I love reading through series of books that I've not read for years. I just finished Fred Pohl's Gateway, and it was a magical experience. I'd forgotten the cold wonder of the first book, and though the rest of the series isn't nearly as remote and majestic, it's still a heady trip.
I'm getting married in, like, a month and four days. This is fascinating--I can sit and stare off into space just considering it for hours. The thought of finally being able to share myself and my life completely with Laura is...wordlessly sublime.
