08/11/2005 Archived Entry: "Programming"

No update for the past two days because I've been slammed work and not thinking about anything except sleep when I finally make it home. With the shuttle back down, we're out from underneath flight freeze rules, and there are lots of things that we can't do when under flight freeze that have been piling up; lots of housecleaning and minor configuration stuff. So, Tuesday and Wednesday (especially Wednesday) were rather full. What small amount of free time I did have was put into writing a Sudoku solver in Excel. Yeah, I know such things already exist out on the web, but I wanted to write my own. It turned into this massive hairy exercise, involving more code than I've ever written before, but it's finally done.

I shared my results with one of the other admins who lives in VBA most of the day doing automation tasks, and he laughed, then took about fifteen minutes and spat out a solver that wiped its ass with my solver. So it goes.

Altiris is down. I hate Altiris so much. As soon as I'm done with this entry, I'm going to have to reboot the Altiris Deployment Server. If there was a way I could reboot it such that the server could be made to feel actual pain, I would so be doing that every single time. Argh.
