01/01/2002 Archived Entry: "Welcome one and all!"
It was the character John Doe in David Fincher's "Se7en" who said, "I've gone...and done it...again!"
Well, lo and behold, I've gone and done it again.
Welcome to keeper's tail, my own personal weblog. Never being one who could leave well enough alone, I've created a place for me to bitch about stuff. Go me. This web site will be dedicated to what I think about current goings-on, how I feel about what's happening in my life, and all the banal crap that weblogs are usually about.
I must give special thanks to Bob at North American Networks for graciously providing gratis webspace and bandwidth for this site. Without his generosity, both this site and the Chronicles of George would simply not exist.
So, um, on with the bitching, I suppose.
New Year's Eve was a relatively uneventful day and night. I did not get drunk off my ass. My best friend Steve is a courtroom videographer and brought a Toshiba LCD projector home from work for the weekend, so we cleared out his living room and watched DVDs projected on a twenty foot wide wall. With the exception of one guy who's on vacation with his girlfriend, and two of my homies who moved out of state four years ago, all of my close friends were there.
I am quite introverted and do not make friends with the sickening ease that some others do; so, what friends I do have are quite dear to me. We are a very tight-knit group, and most of us have known the others since before high school (I've known Steve, my best buddy, since second grade). I sat on the couch with my girlfriend-soon-to-be-fiance, surrounded by a group of people for whom I would give my life, and I reflected that as existences go, mine is pretty blessed.
I kissed Laura as the ball dropped and we all rang in the new year with strawberries and Brut. I've never had anything but the cheap stuff and perhaps this colors my perception, but I think champagne tasts like ass. Still, there were traditions to think about.
Matt and Corey had bought a Teletubby pinata, and so we spent fifteen minutes pummeling the crap out of it in Steve's backyard. That was fun. Tee hee.
And I'm typing this entry on my Christmas present--an Athlon XP 1600+ running on an MSI K7T266-Pro2, with 512MB of Crucial PC2100 DDR, a 30GB and a 40GB drive (both 7200RMP ATA-100), my trusty Kenwood TrueX 72x CD-ROM, and my aging-but-still-good 32MB Hercules GeForce 2 GTS. She runs 3dMark2001 at ~4100, but I think that if I replaced the videocard with a GF3Ti500 that she'd top 6000. That's next on the list--put that right behind "Engagement Ring for Laura" in priority.
Finally, before I finish this entry and scrounge for some breakfast, I have comment posting disabled--meaning that you cannot currently add comments to my entries. If you guys think I should turn it on, drop me a note in the forums.
Happy new year, everybody. Remember: this is our last palendromic year until 2112.
