| Weird Al wrote: | THE ALBUM IS IN STORES!
I don't know if you've heard anything about this or not, but... well, I've got a new album, and it's out as of today.
I'm in the middle of my cross-country promotional blitz - getting a little tired of talking about myself, but still having a great time. The buzz on the new album is huge - the record label seems very excited.
Say, if I could ask a favor... if you are at all inclined to pick up a copy (or 12) of "Straight Outta Lynwood," could you please try to do it this week if at all possible? People in the industry really pay a lot of attention to first week sales figures and chart position - it means a lot to them. (Okay, okay, it means a lot to me too.)
And to all the spoiler-free people who have somehow been able to resist the temptation to download and listen to the album early... I congratulate you and salute your will-power. Now that you've come this far, make sure you do it right - after all, you can only listen to a new album for the first time once. When you get home from the record store, unplug the phone. Dim the lights. Anoint yourself in the finest of oils, set out a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and put the CD in your stereo. Make sure that the volume is turned up to just below the pain threshold, and that you're sitting in the sweet spot on your couch. Then press play, sit back and bask in the glory and majesty that is "Straight Outta Lynwood." Listen over and over again until the songs are permanently wedged in your brain. Then and only then, you may flip the disc over to the DVD side and play all of the music videos, followed by the making-of-the-album featurette. Then you can check out the 5.1 mixes, or take full advantage of the karaoke function until the neighbors threaten to call the police.
Anyway, enjoy the new album. I really hope you like it.
Oh, by the way... just because you DEMANDED it... we will make "White & Nerdy" hoodies (as seen in the video) available to the public. They should be ready in about a week or so... I'll keep you posted.
See ya at the in-store! |

“Stuck in a Drive-Thru” a parody of “Trapped in a closet” by R Kelly is the "Albuquerque" song of the album, by far the longest song on the CD. _________________ Not as Lean

Chris Pirillo does a good review of the album, except he flubs about the unreleased single "You're Pitiful" | Quote: | | 13. You’re Pitiful (Unreleased): He starts singing early, but that flub wasn’t edited out before the song was released and distributed to fans (in an unofficial capacity, as mentioned earlier). It’s too bad Atlantic had a stick up their ass about not including this in SOL, because it would have fit in well. Since I don’t listen to much popular music these days, I wasn’t tired of the “You’re Beautiful” sound by the time I heard this track. Xbox geeks will love the Halo 2 reference, but I still crack up every time I hear “farty pants.” Five stars. |
Um, Chris, have you ever listened to Blunt's "You're Beautiful"? The flub that Weird Al does is purely intentional, it's part of the song. _________________ Not as Lean

So ... did you catch the subtle Led Zeppelin riff in the middle?

Fye's was playing "Pancreas" when I walked in the store. Then they even had a $3.00 mail-in rebate, but that would require me to cut the UPC barcode out of the CD case liner.
But......
Guess what the stickers say on the plastic wrap that I didn't actually read until I got home and was taking the plastic wrap off?

I wonder what the asterisk means? Turn the package over and a smaller sticker says, "*The audio side of this disc does not conform to CD specifications and therefore will not play on some CD and DVD players."
Danger, Wil Robinson! Sony BMG's rootkit came to mind. (Just double-checked and while the recording was made by Volcano Entertainment III/Way Moby, Sony BMG made the disc. Crud.)
First thing I did was to hold down both Shift keys when I put the CD in. (I was having some problems with CD/DVD burning software not recognizing a disc change, so I had to switch "Play Data CDs automatically" back on.) The disc showed up normally in the Plextor drive, which has the nice feature of the AudioFS and shows you the tracks as WAV files. Okay, no problem, so I took it back out.
Put it back in a few minutes later, again holding down the Shift keys, and this time, it can't read the CD. It caused the drive to start showing the "blink blink, your drive is dead" error condition. Maybe Windows somehow got adjusted even though I tried to bypass the auto-run with the Shift keys?
Reboot into the games partition. Nope. Still can't read the CD. Try the DVD-burner. It can't read the CD side. Put it in my Panasonic portable CD player--it can't read it. Try another computer--that one reads it okay.
Crud. Do a search on Google. Plextor's website recommends unplugging the IDE cable and/or reinstalling the drive BIOS. Give reinstalling BIOS a try. Wierd Al's CD is now readable again and shows up in AudioFS. Immediately copy all data tracks to hard drive and play them from there.
Now I just have to figure out how to keep the DVD side from borking up my computer. Better make sure TweakUI has both the Audio disc and Data disc auto-play options turned back off in both partitions. _________________ When you get to the checkout without enough money, do you tell them you're money illiterate? Thanks for that info, RRabbit42. I haven't put the CD/DVD in a computer yet, only used my portable player for the audio CD, and watched the disturbing videos on the DVD in our DVD player. _________________ Not as Lean
